Exploration and Free Views Decadal (2013-2023) Review of its National Young Scholar Theoretical Innovation Award and the 5th National Young Scholar Theoretical Innovation Award Conferring Conference Convened

On October 28th, the Exploration and Free Views Decadal (2013-2023) Review of its National Young Scholar Theoretical Innovation Award and the 5th National Young Scholar Theoretical Innovation Award Conferring Conference was convened at the Science Hall of East China Normal University. Nearly 300 experts and scholars, as well as young researchers from across the country, gathered to review the decade’s journey of the Exploration and Free Views National Young Scholar Theoretical Innovation Award. They aimed to explore the theories, approaches, and patterns of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics and the construction of China’s independent knowledge systems, striving to contribute new energy to build the modern civilization of the Chinese nation.

The Editorial Office of Exploration and Free Views reported on the progress of the Exploration and Free Views National Young Scholar Theoretical Innovation Award in the past decade (from 2013 to 2023). Through the analysis of more than 5,000 submissions, the Editorial Office found that the academic path of young scholars in the new era has shown new characteristics, such as: “They dare to face the questions of the times and accomplish academic work with a sense of mission”; “They are good at answering questions about the future and conduct imaginative academic research”; and “They attempt to answer the world’s questions and engage in practical academic projects”.

The Editorial Office called on more journals, universities, academic research institutions, and other social organizations to join the journal’s effort to help the growth of young scholars, supporting their development in all ways.

The 5th National Young Scholar Innovation Award of Exploration and Free Views awarded one article First Prize, two Second Prizes, nine Third Prizes, and fourteen Nomination Awards. The First Prize winner, Zhu Zhengde, a Ph.D. candidate from the School of Journalism & Communication of Peking University, delivered an acceptance speech. Zhe said, “In the past decade, the Exploration and Free Views National Young Scholar Theoretical Innovation Award has been inspiring young scholars to face China’s issues head-on, take root in China’s practice, and present “young solutions” to all kinds of real problems in the context of China and the world undergoing radical changes at the moment.”. A representative of senior scholars, Prof. Zhao Xiuyi from ECNU, made a speech advising young scholars to think independently, speak prudently, write responsibly, study real problems and sharpen their rhetorical edges.

After the awarding phase, the 6th (2024) National Young Scholar Theoretical Innovation Award of Exploration and Free Views & 2023 Annual Forum for National Outstanding Young Scholars were officially launched. On behalf of the winners and contributing authors to the journal, four young scholars delivered keynote speeches. They were Associate Prof. Feng Qing from the School of Philosophy, Renmin University of China, Associate Prof. Yu Jingdong from the School of Government, Nanjing University, Prof. Li Tao from Northeast Normal University, and Associate Prof. Gu Wenyan from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, ECNU.

On the afternoon of that day, “The China in Theory: Current Situation, Paths, and Future Youth Scholars Forum" was held at the same time, featuring three interdisciplinary sub-forums, namely: “Building the Modern Civilization of the Chinese Nation”; “Mutual Learning of Civilizations and Constructing China’s Independent Knowledge System”; and “Technological Change and Interdisciplinary Research”. More than 100 young scholars from different disciplines such as philosophy, literature, history, law, economics, and sociology engaged in discussions on the issues posed by youth, society, China, and the contemporary era.
