The opening ceremony of the 14th (2020) “Federation Academic Activities Month” held

On September 18, Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations held the opening ceremony of the 14th (2020) “Federation Academic Activities Month” where more than 80 leaders and experts from all academic groups of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations attended.

Xu Jiong

Xu Jiong, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of CPC Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, pointed out in the speech that we are now at the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period—the critical point for scheduling the ambitious blueprint for the 14th Five-Year Plan—which is also an important period for Shanghai to seek for new possibility at a new and higher starting point, developing itself into a global city and a modern socialist cosmopolitan metropolis with international influences. 

All academic groups were urged to insist on the main direction of cultivating academic function, establishing philosophies and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, and serving both the disciplinary and theoretical development, the innovation impetuses of focusing on academic foreland, promoting interdisciplinary dialogues, and responding to the requirement of times, as well as the major task of concentrating on central work for the high-quality economic and social development of Shanghai.

Wang Zhan

Wang Zhan, Chairman of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, stressed in his speech that this year marked the end of the project of “building a moderately prosperous society” and the beginning of a new journey to build a modern socialist country in an all-round way and that all experts, scholars, young talents, and members of all academic groups were encouraged to shine on the stage of this Association Academic Activities Month. They were expected not only to make due academic contribution, but also giving full play to their role as a think tank in the government’s decision-making.

Quan Heng

Quan Heng, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, first extended his sincere appreciation to the experts and scholars present and the academic groups behind for their powerful support. He hoped that all academic groups could ensure the epidemic prevention and control and improve the quality and influence of seminars conducted during this month, so as to generate fruitful achievements for the economic and social development of Shanghai.

On the opening ceremony, Yang Daixiong, Professor of the Law School of East China University of Political Science and Law and Member of Shanghai Lecturing League of the Civil Code; Prof. Yin Chen, Chair of the Council of School of Social Development and Public Policy of Fudan University and Secretary-General of Institute of Shanghai Free Trade Zone; Zhu Dajian, Professor of Tongji University and Chairman of Shanghai Society of Sustainability; and Chen Dongxiao, President of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and Vice Chairman of Shanghai UN Research Association, made academic speeches on “Civil Code as an Encyclopedia of Social Life,” “New Requirement of ‘Dual Circulation’ and New Impetus of the Pilot Free Trade Zone,” “2020-2035: Four Key Issues for China's Green Development,” and “Time of Change and Turbulence and US-China Strategic Competition.”

It is reported that, during the academic activities month, more than 50 academic members of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations will hold 27 high-quality academic seminars focusing on the “14th Five-Year Plan” and Shanghai Development, the integrative development of the Yangtze River Delta, community governance and so on.
