Founded on 19 February, 1957, Shanghai International Studies Association (SISA) was one of the eight founding members of the Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations. Its first president was Mr. Ping Hailan.Its current president is Mr. Zha Mingjian.
The association is mainly composed of Shanghai-based teachers engaged in foreign language teaching and research in higher education institutions, and practitioners, experts and scholars specialized in fields related to foreign languages, including translation and foreign economy and trade.
The association’s purpose is to strengthen ties among foreign language workers in Shanghai, and mobilized its members to carry out research and practice in the fields of foreign language and literature, foreign language teaching, translation, international economy, international trade, international finance, etc. Among its major functions are promoting academic and cultural exchanges among foreign language workers and researchers, improve foreign language research and practice in Shanghai, and contribute to the high-quality economic and social development of the country and the city in particular, as well as China’s reform and opening up. Its services cover organizing academic research activities, holding various foreign language training projects, providing expanded translation consulting services, and carrying out both domestic and international academic exchanges and cooperative research.
